About Grumpmeister

Dutch coaster enthusiast. Reluctant flat rider.

Grumpmeister with arms wide open at a theme park

The story so far.

I grew up in the Netherlands, spending my youth on occasional trips to Efteling and smaller local parks. Those visits sparked an obsession with how roller coasters actually work, but over time, the trips became less frequent, and other things took over.

I'd always been afraid of heights and inversions, so it took me until I was 18 to finally face that fear. On roller coasters, at least. My first ever inversion was on Condor, a Vekoma Suspended Looping Coaster. Honestly grateful that didn't put me off for good.

Then in 2018, just before the world shut down, I visited Phantasialand with a group of colleagues. I rode Taron, and somewhere on that launch track a single thought hit me: why did I ever stop doing this? The visits started picking up again, then came the camera, then the YouTube channel, and what began as something casual quietly became a genuine passion.

But I want this to be more than a travel diary. I want you to walk into your next park visit feeling prepared and walk out wanting to come back. That means honest takes on the rides worth riding, tips on where to eat, and the experiences you shouldn't miss: whatever it takes to make your day the best it can be.

One flat ride at a time.

Rediscovering my passion for roller coasters and theme parks came with a big drawback. Despite having conquered my fear of inversions and heights on coasters, flat rides still terrify me.

Put me on a crazy coaster like Ride to Happiness and I'll laugh my lungs out. Put me on a drop tower and I'm scared for my life.

So I decided to document it. Every flat ride, every fear, with you holding me accountable. I've conquered the swinging ship, I'm working on pendulums, and I recently got my first flip on a Sky Fly.

I can't really give you the best tips without riding some of the best rides at the park, now can I? Check out the series on YouTube, and help me conquer my fears. One flat ride at a time.
